Petition God to move the hearts of youth in your parish to respond to God’s call and to pray for the perseverance of vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
We must pray everyday for our young people to find and live their vocations. Prayer is the key to assisting our youth to hear the “whisper” of God’s call and to have the courage to respond to God’s call in gratitude. A parish vocation prayer team can foster prayer in three ways: in the community, as individuals, and within families. For ideas to promote prayer for vocations in your parish, see below.
Traveling Shrine Programs
Vocations Crucifix - Begin a Vocations Crucifix Program of prayer for vocations among the families in your parish. Circulate a Crucifix to families in your parish on a weekly/monthly basis. The family promises to pray each day for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. The family can be recognized at Mass by being called forth at communion to receive a blessing from the priest.
Devotional Statue - Circulate a statue of Christ, Our Lady, or your parish patron saint to volunteer families on a weekly/monthly basis. The family can be recognized at Mass by being called forth at communion to receive a blessing from the priest.
The Elijah Cup - Circulate a chalice to volunteer families on a weekly/monthly basis. At the end of Communion, the priest calls a family, couple, or individual forward to receive the chalice at any Mass of your choosing. The priest encourages them to pray for vocations. The Elijah Cup is returned to the parish the following week/month.
A Suitable Home - The crucifix, statue, or chalice should be housed in a nice wooden case, the doors of which open to reveal a small "grotto" within. A drawer in the bottom of the case contains prayer material to promote vocations.

Vocations Prayer Calendar - Pray for a specific priest, religious, or seminarian every day! Develop a calendar and place a different name on each date of the month. Promote this idea in your parish bulletin or on your parish website. Individuals in the parish then commit to praying that day for the intention of this priest, religious or seminarian.
31 Club - Solicit families from your parish to pray for vocations from your parish. Once volunteers are solicited, assign each family one day per month to pray for vocations to the priesthood or religious life from your parish on a given day. Publish the calendar on your website, in the bulletin, or for a bulletin board in your vestibule.

Adoration Adoption Program - Place a recipe type box of post cards in your adoration chapel. On the front of each card, place the name of a priest, religious or seminarian for whom the adorers can offer their holy hour. Once the card is filled, mail it to the priest or religious. For a sample of an Avery template of a ready to print post card, click here. Remember to use Avery Postcard 8387 to print your cards.
Holy Hour for Vocation Templates - Periodically, your vocation prayer team can sponsor a Holy Hour for Vocations in your Parish to encourage public and communal prayer for vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
